Advanced Permaculture Principles & Planning Tools
4 day residential course with David Holmgren
Targeted at Permaculture Design Certificate holders who are looking to deepen their understanding of Permaculture and improve their conceptual skills & tool kit for design & action. In this intensive course, David Holmgren, co-originator of the permaculture concept (with Bill Mollison), provides an insight into permaculture as a set of design principles for reshaping how we manage land, our lives and our livelihoods in a world of energy descent.
Using a combination of free flowing lectures, visual presentations, case studies of his own work, structured group discussions, observations and a site design exercise, David breathes life into the design principles which link the diversity of permaculture solutions. The core of this course is the presentation and workshopping in groups of the format of design principles from Permaculture: Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability. Additional presentations and group work focus on Reading Landscape, Landscape Mapping, Energy Descent Scenarios and Community Mapping. Participants also gain experience in using the design principles in an extended small group site design exercise.
An internationally respected author and public speaker, David Holmgren is committed to presenting permaculture ideas through practical projects and personal example, providing a refreshing and unorthodox approach to the environmental issues of our time. To learn from him in Hepburn is an excellent rare opportunity.
Cost $530, includes meals and BYO camping onsite.
More info at www.holmgren.com.au, email info@holmgren.com.au, or phone 03 5348 3636.

sustainable clothing workshops
From September 4th
Have you got a wardrobe full of things you never wear?
Perhaps you collect ill-fitting op-shop garments that you never get around to altering?
From mid August to the end of October, retreat centre regular Kim Kneipp will be running clothing reconstruction wardrobes, where participants can bring along a suitcase full of old (unworn) favourites, and over the course of 2, 3 or 4 sessions, we will turn these garments upside down, inside out and back to front – cutting, unpicking and embellishing them to give them a new life.
Come alone, or bring some friends – and if you’re coming from Melbourne why not stay here at the retreat centre for the weekend and s-l-o-w r-i-g-h-t d-o-w-n.
You can read more about sustainable clothing workshops at Kim's website, the sustainable stylist.
